bah humbug

I hate this time of year. I really do.

Don't give me that incredulous look! I have my reasons....

It all goes back to my childhood when my Father used to make us erect an aluminum pole in the lounge and we'd all sit around listing all the ways that the rest of the family had disappointed us during that year. While all the other kids celebrated Christmas or Hannukah, our family celebrated "Festivus - a festival for the rest of us."

Ok, actually none of that is true. That was George Costanza's childhood, not mine.

My reason for intensely disliking this time of year is far simpler and far more current... It should be noted that last year and every year preceding that one, I loved this time of year.

What has changed, you may ask? To which I may retort: What hasn't?

Last year this time I would be beeeeeeroooooooooooooonze! None of this translucent look which I am currently sporting. I would have aquired the aforementioned hue by spending the past few weeks lazily shmultzing (there really is no other word for it) around the pool. In fact, quite possibly by now I would have been moaning (most self-indulgently in the way that only students can pull off) about how booooooooooo-hooooooooooooooored I am. About how there's nooooothing to doooowoooo. My dad would have been sternly warning me that "these are the best years of your life" and pleading with me not to say I'm bored.

Now I understand.

That's the first true sign of aging. Not the stray grey or the declining need for a social life which last pasts 12, but the point where you truly start appreciating your parents wisdom. Whip out the oil of olay, people, I'm-a gettin old!

Caz, I couldn't agree with you more. Having to work during this time of year sucks! Meanwhile my sis who is a student gets to jol around the country side. It just isn't fair! I guess I should be grateful I get Christmas and New Year off. That really sickly looking white person on the beach'll be me :)

Thanks - your too! Loved the flirting wisdom! Lazy time has alas come to a grinding halt:
newly wed + masters + full time job = translucent caz :(

I'm one of those sickening students catching a tan...getting nice and bronze...having just finished my degree, and decided to take a gap year.

But the funny thing is, is that I feel like I'm wasting time..that I should be doing something...

Why, oh why, cant I enjoy some guilt-free, well-deserved idleness?

Cher - you shouldn't worry dear - you're getting two full weeks of lazing around my pool and sleeping in my soon-to-be-here-hammock! Caz - you may join her ...... catch some rays ... although, you don't want to look like a prune by the time you're 35 now do you??????? I'd rather be snow white and look younger when I'm older ... thank you very much!

Tam, my friend, if you going to do something, for goodness sake, do it properly! i.e. Have a FANTASTIC holiday. Live it up! REVEL in it. You can even rub it in to your working friends... (not me, of course... that would be cruel) coz it is over faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar to soon! Plus you've worked your but off and had a rough time of late, so you deserve it!!

tam I am sooooooooooo jealous. But I did have a FANTASTICLY lazy studenty girl weekend with my digsmate from varsity (The band is in lesotho :0( ). We did all the meaningful stuff: shopped.... ate sushi... vegged for hours...watched chick flicks... tripped the electricity by setting the jacuzzi too high. etc etc. *bliss*
